The aim is simple, the task probably not: two people attempt to write and record an album, in one year, while holding down full-time jobs - a process we are now calling ‘Tunelighting’. Can it be done? In this podcast series, friends Jack Edwards and Rob Wreglesworth will document their journey from day one - where they have no band name, no songs and no idea where to start - to day 365, where they will (hopefully) have a completed musical record. Each episode will cover a different subject related to recording music at home, sharing tips, insights and lessons learned along the way. The hope is that this podcast can act as a template for anyone else who wants to try Tunelighting! The podcast is brought to you by MusiciansHQ.com

Vocals!?! (Part 1)
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
Despite making good progress with the demos, Jack and Rob feel like they have hit a bit of a wall. They know they want to include vocals but neither of them considers themselves a 'natural' singer (whatever that means!).
In this episode, the hosts discuss why they want to include vocals, what vocals and lyrics can add to music, and inventive ways they might approach the problem.
Thanks to everyone who has listened so far. Please keep writing in and letting us know. Especially if you are writing and recording your own stuff as we would love to share it. tunelighting@musicianshq.com

Breaking Down One Of Our Demos
Wednesday Sep 23, 2020
Wednesday Sep 23, 2020
After receiving multiple requests to stop talking and play some more actual music (fair enough!), in this episode Jack and Rob decided to take a look at one of the tracks they have been working on for the album.
Jack talks through how he approached this track and how it progressed, from messing around with synth sounds to the final structure.
For more music clips and album progress, you can now follow the band @thebeartax on Instagram or you can also follow the podcast on social media @tunelighting. Any questions or comments feel free to email tunelighting@musicianshq.com

The Search For Wabi Sabi
Wednesday Sep 09, 2020
Wednesday Sep 09, 2020
In this episode, Jack and Rob discuss thoughts they've been having around using sampled instruments vs recording their own. Does it make a difference to the sound or can nobody even tell? Or perhaps it is simply about how the artist feels when they don't create all the sounds themselves? All this is discussed ending with a quiz to see if Jack can tell the difference between tracks with live and programmed drums. Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
In this week's episode, Jack and Rob sit down for a chat with fellow musician and podcast host Brian Funk.
Brian has hosted the Music Production Podcast for over 3 years now as well as producing albums and EPs himself across a variety of genres. These years of experience and interesting conversations mean he has lots of useful insights and tips for the Tunelighting project.
This is actually part two of the chat with Jack and Rob also appearing on The Music Production Podcast just a couple of days before (so make sure you check that out too!)
Please email in to let us know you are listening to tunelighting@musicianshq.com or you can find us on all social media too.

We will be back with a full episode next week but in the meantime, please send any questions, ideas or even music to tunelighting@musicianshq.com

Tuesday Jul 07, 2020
Tuesday Jul 07, 2020
This week Jack and Rob discuss the problem of 'endless possibilities' in terms of equipment and song/ album themes and why contrary to what most people think it is actually the enemy of creativity. This leads the hosts to make a pledge to set some limits.

The 3 Month Update
Wednesday Jul 01, 2020
Wednesday Jul 01, 2020
It's 3 months into the 12 month timeline, so Jack and Rob decide to use this milestone to reflect on what they have done so far, including a few short clips of some demo songs.
Also in this episode, they talk about creativity and inspiration in lockdown and (after it's cancellation this year) reminisce about some great Glastonbury sets.
